Activity: Context Analysis
In unit 1, you were asked to design a security strategy for an event of your choice. In this activity, you will conduct a simple context analysis for the same event. You may also select any other event for this exercise, if your previous event does not apply.
In your respective events, answer these following questions based on the context during the time when the event occurred.
- What are the key issues which impact on human rights in the country (Consider political, economic and social issues).
- Who are the main actors on these key issues? (Consider powerful individuals, institutions, local, national, regional and international organisations, business and other states).
- How might our human rights work negatively or positively affect the interests of these key actors – how have they responded already?
- When are HRDs most likely to be attacked (verbally or physically)? (Eg. prior to or during elections, demonstrations, anniversaries, certain religious events etc)
Where possible, substantiate your context analysis. For instance, If you say LGBT is very sensitive in Malaysia, what evidence do you have to make the assumption?
Once you are done, click "Add Discussion Topic" to submit your context analysis. Please title your submission with the name of the event, like 'Context Analysis for Big Gay Iftar'. Once you've submitted, don't forget to check out the analysis other fellows have submitted
